Q: I have spaces between my teeth and it makes me very conscious. How can you help me?
For rectifying spaces between teeth, there are multiple options. Definitive but long treatment is by orthodontics, where the teeth will gradually align in a way that the spaces get closed. Other options include veneers and bridges where the problem with only the front teeth can be solved. Sometimes fillings with tooth-colored material (called as composites) can be done. Depending on the extent as well as bearing in mind your preferences, our dentist will make a choice for you.
Q: I don’t smile because I feel my teeth are protruding outward and this makes me look ugly. What can I do?
The treatment option for this complaint also remains more or less the same. Orthodontics, the most definitive form of treatment, will help move the teeth inside. Otherwise, other options like ceramic bridges or veneers can also be done.
Q: I don’t smile because I feel my smile is too gummy. How can you correct this?
Firstly, it has to be understood that gummy smile can occur because of two very different problems that have two very different treatments. A gummy smile can be because the upper jaw itself is placed much lower down as compared to the usual or second because the gums have grown over the teeth. In the first case, since it’s a jaw problem and not the teeth – surgical and orthodontic options will be discussed with you by your dentist at length. If it is because of the second reason, i.e; gums have grown over the teeth, an anesthetic treatment where the gums are contoured can be done. Other options such as lip repositioning, according to individual patients, can also be done.
Q: My teeth look fine but they are yellow. What are your options?
If you feel your teeth are yellow, visit your dentist and ask for his/her opinion. Sometimes, making your teeth white will go against your skin color and look artificial. If your dentist is convinced, options such as bleaching or veneering are possible. Bleaching is applying chemicals to make your teeth white. Veneering is a process in which thin shells of tooth-colored material are fixed on the front side of your teeth to improve your smile.
